This is the start of our year in Peru! If you’re joining us from our first blog: USMC Family Nomads, welcome to our new travel blog! This space is specifically for Peru and the many South American countries we will visit over the next year. Here’s a little recap of our PCS from the states and what we have to look forward to in the future:
We had such a wonderful visit with friends and family in Texas. It was bittersweet to leave. The kids really developed deep relationships with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. It gives me hope that with some skyping they will remember everyone next year when we return to the states. Our third nephew was born two days before our departure, so we were able to meet the sweet little guy the night before we left! Between that and a goodbye BBQ dinner with family, our stay wrapped up nicely.
We are super excited to be starting our year in Peru! I know the time is going to fly by, so we plan on enjoying each moment to the fullest! I’m hoping the kids won’t go through culture shock, though I expect I will. I’ve been to Mexico a couple times; to Monclova, Torreón and Saltillo for mission trips, but only a week each time. This was actually my first time to use my passport! Even our littles will be world travelers when we return to the states next year.
I’m looking forward to learning from the numerous cultures we’ll be introduced to in South and Central America. A year of traveling around this region will be stretching for our little ones, but should only solidify their resilience. The Marine Corps life hasn’t been easy for any of us, but for every hard day, there’s another day I wouldn’t trade for the world. Our littles are already so good at adapting to new environments. We are excited to try our hand at international travel as a family! I think it can be done. We don’t expect it to be the same as traveling without kids, but with a little extra planning, some flexibility and God’s grace, we should be able to see a lot in the next 12 months! Welcome to our journey…
